Cristian Techera Alcatel Player of the Week

) – Vancouver Whitecaps FC midfielder Cristian Techera was voted the Alcatel Major League Soccer Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for the 13th week of the 2018 MLS season.




Vancouver tied the New England Revolution 3-3 at BC Place on Saturday behind a Techera hat trick, the first of his MLS career. The Uruguayan now has five goals and one assist in six games started for Whitecaps FC this season. Vancouver sits in sixth place in the Western Conference with 17 points (4-5-5 overall record).




After falling behind by two goals, Techera gave Whitecaps FC a boost with a goal in the 48th minute when he finished off a Marcel de Jong cross directly in front of goal to bring the score to 2-1 (

). The 25-year-old scored again in the 51st minute to bring the match to 2-2. Techera’s shot from close range was deflected by goalkeeper Matt Turner, but the Vancouver forward was able to head in the deflected ball for the equalizer (

After New England regained the lead, Techera was once again able to pull Vancouver even with a goal in the 74th minute to bring the match to 3-3. Yordy Reyna sent a cross into the center of the box from the right wing, with Techera finishing with a left-footed strike (Watch Goal).




Vancouver returns to action on Friday, June 1 to face the Colorado Rapids at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park (9:00 p.m. ET, TSN / ESPN+).
