Report: Minnesota turned down $1.5 million offer for Christian Ramirez

Christian Ramirez drew interest from Liga MX sides before signing with Minnesota United FC prior to their inaugural MLS season in 2017. And it appears that interest did not stop once the season started.

On Sunday's ESPN broadcast of Minnesota and the Seattle Sounders, analyst Taylor Twellman dropped the news that the Loons had an offer for the 27-year-old last summer.

"They [MNUFC] had a $1.5 million offer from Mexico last summer where they had the opportunity to either sell him, or they made the other decision in keeping him," Twellman reported. "But Iā€˜m not sure heā€™s their starting No. 9 from here on out. Unless Adrian Heath can find another way to change this team, itā€™s a little bit of a conundrum from him."

Ramirez ended the 2017 season with 14 goals, the third-most among Americans in MLS. He did not score in Minnesota's first six matches (four starts) of 2018, while battling an ankle injury according to Twellman. He entered Sunday's match in the 52nd minute and scored his first goal of the season as the Loons lost at CenturyLink Field 3-1.
