Vancouver Whitecaps FC 0, LAFC 2 | 2018 MLS Match Recap

The usual suspects helped lead LAFC to a 2-0 victory over the Vancouver Whitecaps FC at BC Place on Friday. Carlos Vela and Diego Rossi both notched goals in the win, and were both assisted by Marcos Ureña

LAFC dominated chances on goal, recording 16 shots -- eight in the first half. The stalemate between the two sides ended in the 59th minute when Vela used his left foot to slot a golazo in the top corner before goalkeeper Stefan Marinovic could make any move to the ball. Rossi cleaned up an insurance goal just ten minutes later.

Three Things

  • THE BIG PICTURE: LAFC quietly erased the uncharacteristic collapse against Atlanta United last week. The 2-0 win against Vancouver was not flashy, rather crucial to LAFC. The club has a foothold again, avoiding an early slip after a successful start to their inaugural season.

  • MOMENT OF THE MATCH:
LAFC defender Jordan Harvey substituted off the pitch in the 86th minute to a roaring applause from fans of his former club. The defender spent seven seasons with Vancouver prior to joining the LA side. There was clearly no bad blood between Whitecaps and Harvey as he made his way to the bench.

  • MAN OF THE MATCH: Vela increased his goal count to four this season. The LA attack continues to run through Vela and Rossi, who have now combined for eight goals.
