New York Red Bulls Forward Bradley Wright-Phillips Voted Alcatel MLS Player of the Week
NEW YORK (Tuesday, March 27, 2018) – New York Red Bulls forward Bradley Wright-Phillips was voted the Alcatel Major League Soccer Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for the fourth week of the 2018 MLS season.
Wright-Phillips scored two goals in New York’s 3-0 victory over Minnesota United FC at Red Bull Arena on Saturday. The Englishman now has 89 goals in his MLS career, ranking 11th all-time while scoring more goals (88) over a five-year span than any player in MLS history. New York sits third in the Eastern Conference standings with six points (2-1-0 record), while Wright-Phillips is tied for third in the league with three goals scored this season.
With the Red Bulls holding a 1-0 lead after a 15th minute goal, Wright-Phillips gave his club an insurance goal with an acrobatic play in the 42nd minute. Tim Parker deflected a New York free kick towards goal, then Wright-Phillips beat goalkeeper Matt Lampson to the ball with a right-footed flick to put it over his head and into the back of the net (Watch Goal).
Wright-Phillips then completed his brace in the 78th minute to give New York a 3-0 lead, finishing Alex Muyl’s perfectly placed pass with a chip from just inside the box over Lampson (Watch Goal). It was the 19th multi-goal performance in Wright-Phillips’ MLS regular season career.
The New York Red Bulls return to action on Saturday, March 31 to face Orlando City SC on the road (1:00 p.m. ET, UniMás / Twitter).
