A report out of Costa Rica indicate that Deportivo Saprissa center back Julio Cascante (pictured above) is headed to MLS:

Hardly unusual fare for the winter transfer season, but Stumptown Footy tied several other tweets together, noting prior reports of the Timbers' interest in the 24-year-old defender.

Cascante, who received his first full Costa Rica international cap in December 2015, was previously linked with a move to the Rose City as the team was searching for a replacement for injured defender Gbenga Arokoyo. Portland would eventually sign Larrys Mabiala. Both Mabiala and Arokoyo remain on the roster ahead of the 2018 season.

Portland have seen Cascante's work up close, having played against his Saprissa side in the group stage of the 2016-17 CONCACAF Champions League. He has been with Saprissa since July 2016.
