Brian Schmetzer's message for stopping Fredy Montero: Let's get physical

Brian Schmetzer - Seattle Sounders - October 28, 2017

Was he serious or was it tongue-in-cheek?

That's what Vancouver Whitecaps fans will be asking themselves when they listen to the response provided by Seattle Sounders head coach Brian Schmetzer regarding his message to the Sounders defense to stop Vancouver striker Fredy Montero.

Listen to it for yourself in the video above (at the 1:55 mark) during a media scrum at BC Place in Vancouver.

"How about Roman [Torres] just smashing him to death? How about that?" Schmetzer replied with a smile. "Or Chad Marshall on a goal kick getting up and heading the ball 20 yards that way and having Fredy end up on the floor?

Montero went 90 minutes in each of the three regular season meetings this year and across those 270 minutes he has only suffered two fouls and both of them came on April 14, the same match in which he scored two goals against his former club. He went without taking a foul on Aug. 23 (1-1 draw) and Sept. 27 (3-0 Sounders win).
