Kempin first rebuffed Federico Higuain from the spot in the 24th minute, then followed it up with a stop on Ola Kamara in the 79th minute. The 24-year-old is the first player to save two penalties in a game this season.
He joins Tony Meola with Kansas City (Aug. 10, 2002), D.J. Countess for Dallas (Oct. 11, 2003), Vancouver's David Ousted (June 20, 2015) and Bobby Shuttleworth for New England (Mar. 20, 2016) as the only goalkeepers to have saved more than one penalty kick in a single MLS regular season game. All five saved two penalties -- no player has ever saved more than two penalty attempts in one regular season game.
It's probably scant consolation for Kempin on a night his team lost, but he did join exclusive company with his performance against Columbus.
