Chicago Fire 1, Toronto FC 3 | 2017 MLS Match Recap

Toronto FC edged the Chicago Fire on Saturday in a clash of MLS Eastern Conference contenders, as the league-leading Reds rode goals from Marky Delgado, Nicolas Hasler and a late clincher from Sebastian Giovinco to victory in front of a vibrant sellout crowd at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, Illinois.

In what might prove to be a preview of postseason fireworks, David Accam scored to keep the hosts in contention in an intense, evenly-matched affair that pulsated from start to finish. But TFC's quality proved too much for the Fire, who have now lost three straight to fall off the Supporters' Shield pace set by Toronto.

Three Things

  • BARNBURNER IN BRIDGEVIEW: "If you build it, they will come." The baseball classic "Field of Dreams" was set in rural Iowa, a few hours west of Toyota Park, and the movie's central line came to mind on Saturday as the Fire welcomed the biggest regular-season crowd in their home ground's history. Chicago have finally built a title contender and the fans are flocking to watch, and support loudly. Though TFC won this game, the Fire can look forward to a strong home-field advantage in the months to come.

  • CANADIAN JUGGERNAUT
: Though their opponents often get extra hyped to face them, TFC just keep conquering every challenge. Greg Vanney's Reds have produced one statement game after another this season and Saturday's was the latest, as they controlled possession and tempo against a worthy East rival. With just three league losses to date, they're now chasing history, while the rest of MLS chases them.

    BRADLEY BALLS OUT
    :
    Michael Bradley
's dominance of midfield was a key element of Toronto's victory as the US international made his return to his childhood hometown. He, Delgado and
    Victor Vazquez
were superb all evening against the Fire's vaunted engine room ā€” though the Fire might've made it easier by fielding
    Bastian Schweinsteiger
deeper than usual, as a de facto defender in a quirky five-man back line look over the first 45 minutes.
