New York City FC ensured the LA Galaxy's home woes continued on Saturday, as the visitors notched a 2-0 win at StubHub Center.

NYCFC opened the scoring in the second half, as rookie Jonathan Lewis made something out of nothing with a marauding solo run finished with a terrific looping finish. MLS Golden Boot leader David Villa then scored an insurance tally for the visitors to ensure the win.

The result means NYCFC stay within a manageable deficit in the Supporters' Shield race, while LA have not won a home game in MLS regular season play since April 7.

Three Things

JOHNSON STANDS ON HIS HEAD: The loss certainly fits a pattern for the Galaxy, but that may unfairly obscure the fact that NYCFC goalkeeper Sean Johnson had a night to remember. Making five saves, literally all of them possible MLS Save of the Week contenders, Johnson kept his team in the game and showed why he's a US international. If he can continue form like this in the homestretch, NYCFC may have the X-factor needed to lift silverware this year.

ZARDES STRUGGLES CONTINUE:
Gyasi Zardes
' struggles this season are
well documented
. Those struggles continued on Saturday night as the 25-year-old failed to score on four shots, with one going on target. Galaxy head coach was pretty blunt after the game about what the team was lacking on the night.

RAGING ROOKIE: NYCFC's win puts them in second place in the Supporters' Shield race, four points behind leader Toronto FC. Between Johnson's heroics in goal, Villa's sublime play, as always, and now Lewis' debut goal, they look like they're going to push TFC to the end. Lewis, who has been getting a sustained run of playing time lately under Patrick Vieira, looks like he is growing into the pro game in his first season, and could become a useful contributor as New York City hunt for a title.
