Ordinarily, when a team is on a five-game unbeaten streak, they'd probably bemoan the arrival of a week off in the schedule. Not so with Atlanta United boss Gerardo Martino, who believes their upcoming mini-break will allow injury returns for strike ace Josef Martinez and All-Star left back Greg Garza when the club returns to action at D.C. Mounting defenses in Houston, LA


Houston augmented their defense stable on Monday with the acquisition of free agent center back Philippe Senderos, most recently of Rangers. The 32-year-old has 57 Switzerland caps and has played at three World Cups. READ MORE


Meanwhile, Ouest France reports that the LA Galaxy are in advanced talks [in French—ed.] with out-of-contract Lorient defender Michael Ciani. The 33-year-old has played for the likes of Bordeaux and Lazio, and earned one France cap. READ MORE

According to Paraguayan scribe Wilson Gonzalez, Dynamo Kyiv have stalled the move of Derlis Gonzalez to Seattle by hiking the transfer fee at the last second. And local blog Sounder at Heart figures the cash-poor Ukrainian club might have overplayed their hand. READ MORE

Nashville (bid) expansion


According to The Tennessean, the Wilf family (majority owners of the NFL's Minnesota Vikings) have joined local businessman John Ingram as minority investors in the prospective effort.
