The first double-game week of 2017 is officially in the books! It was an exciting one, with unexpected shutouts, high score lines and little rotation resulting in big fantasy points for many managers. It did not, however, result in big changes to my top 50 list, as many of the results fell in line with my expectations.
Below is my updated list of the top 50 MLS Fantasy players. This list is not designed to focus solely on the upcoming fantasy round, but instead looks at where players fall in the overall rankings. Players with an asterisk are on injury watch and may soon be removed from the list.

Adjustments
As mentioned above, I didn’t see the need to make many big changes after Round 8 because most players put up expected points. Guys like Sebastian Giovinco, Maxi Moralez and Clint Dempsey finally generated scores that we would expect from players of their caliber. Players facing harder games – Romain Alessandrini and Bastian Schweinsteiger – had lower returns.
Players outside the top 30 saw the biggest shift. That’s the new home of Chris Wondolowski and Giovani dos Santos, who both dropped after showing no signs of ending their scoreless streaks soon. Yamil Asad and David Accam went the other way, moving up several spots after registering road goals.
Additions
New names were added to this week: Victor Vazquez has been a favorite in the comments section and his performance over the past three weeks has earned him a spot in the top 25. Fredy Montero and Michael Barrios have also been a reliable source of points for the past few rounds and should be on everyone’s watch list when a favorable matchup come up.
Are there any other players who you would add to this list? If you make a well-reasoned case for an addition, adjustment, or removal of a player in the comments, I’ll take a look and consider it for a future week.
