FC Dallas 1, Sporting Kansas City 0 | 2017 MLS Match Recap

And then there was one.

FC Dallas defeated Sporting Kansas City 1-0 Saturday night at Toyota Stadium in a showdown of what began as the last two undefeated teams. Left back Maynor Figueroa broke the deadlock with a header in the 77th minute, extending FCD's home undefeated streak to 11 games dating back to last season, and leaving Dallas as the only unbeaten team in MLS.

Three Things

  1. DEFENSIVELY STRONG: Not only did these two come in as the last undefeated teams, but they were also the stingiest defensively. And that held true on Saturday again. SKC conceded just their third goal through eight games, and only the second through the run of play. Likewise, Dallas posted their third shutout in six games - and second versus SKC - and have also only surrendered a league-low three goals this season.
  2. STATS THAT MATTER: The boxscore says that SKC won the possession battle 61-39, and that the visitors completed 611 passes to FCD's 369. This was something we saw coming based on previous games. But what was perhaps more representative of the game were the offensive chances. SKC finished with one shot on goal, while Dallas put six on frame, including the winner.
  3. MORE THAN SOCCER: While he didn't get into the game, it was a great site to see Ryan Hollingshead make the 18-man gameday roster for FC Dallas. He's come a long way from the scary January car accident where he sustained three broken vertebrae in his neck and was left temporarily paralyzed.
