Portland Timbers forward Fanendo Adi voted Alcatel MLS Player of the Week
NEW YORK

– Portland Timbers forward Fanendo Adi was voted the Alcatel MLS Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for the 15
th
week of the 2017 MLS season.
Adi scored a brace in leading Portland to a 2-0 victory over FC Dallas on Saturday at Providence Park, recording his 13
th
multi-goal effort for the Timbers since 2014, the second-best total in MLS over that span. The 26-year-old ranks tied for third in the Golden Boot Standings with eight goals scored this season to go along with two assists. Following its second consecutive victory, Portland now sits in second place in the Western Conference standings with 24 points (7-5-3 overall record).
The Nigerian-born forward put Portland ahead 1-0 in the 32
nd
minute with a powerful run into the box, keeping his balance despite contact from a defender just long enough to send off a right-footed shot past goalkeeper Jesse Gonzalez  (

Adi displayed a great bit of skill and patience to score his second goal in the 72
nd
minute to give the Timbers a 2-0 advantage. After receiving a pass from Dairon Asprilla in the box, Adi feinted a left-footed shot to fool Gonzalez before switching to his right foot and firing a powerful shot into the back of the net from close range (
