David Villa in talks to extend New York City FC contract

David Villa is in talks to extend his stay with New York City FC, according to comments made by the Spanish striker to Grant Wahl on Sports Illustratedā€™s Planet Futbol podcast.

Villa, who will turn 35 on Dec. 3, is under contract with NYCFC through 2017. He told Wahl that he would like to stay in New York beyond his current deal.

ā€œIf my mentality, if my body, of course, are good, [then] we still here,ā€ he said. ā€œI am comfortable here, the club I think is comfortable with me, and if I am good, I keep playing here. We're talking about it with the club.ā€

Villa is currently second in MLS with 22 goals this season. Heā€™s one strike behind New York Red Bullsā€™ forward Bradley Wright-Phillips for the league lead heading into the final game of the regular season this weekend.

NYCFC will look to clinch a top-two seed in the East and the Knockout Round bye that comes with it on Sunday with a home win against Columbus Crew SC (4 pm ET; MLS LIVE)
