MLS Fantasy Rewind: Morales, Giovinco pace pack in Round 22

Javier Morales - Real Salt Lake - close-up

This past week in MLS Fantasy Toronto FC ran the show with the Dream Team for the round taking on a distinctive red hue. If this sounds familiar, it’s because that was my intro for last round as well.

The Round 22 double game week did not disappoint.

Sebastian Giovinco ($13.6) and Javier Morales ($11.0) were the big players this week, each worth more than twenty points. Captaining Giovinco was a move which netted MLS Fantasy managers a cool 50 points. Since Giovinco is on 70 percent of rosters, the round average was 76 points.

Also raising the curve was RSL's Morales, who despite the double game week got most of his points in Real Salt Lake’s 3-1 victory Saturday over the Chicago Fire. This was the first double digit fantasy performance on the year for Morales who is finding his groove again as of late.

Toronto and RSL go a long way in filling out the rest of the Dream Team. Steven Beitashour ($7.8), Josh Williams ($6.5), and Demar Phillips ($7.0) make up three-quarters of the back line. Alex Bono ($4.7) was top goalkeeper for the week, and Jonathon Osorio ($7.0) rounds out the double game week stars.

Top defender went to a midfielder this week, with Marlon Hairston ($5.3) getting a six-point goal and a four-point clean sheet while returning to his rookie year position. Hairston has only gone 90 minutes once this season, but he’s a good pickup at that price.

Congratulations are in order for the 160-point earning 3Way Or The Highway whose team featured a double game week backbone, a Giovinco captain, and Hairston. Enjoy your prize, RSL TID.

Getting Back to Normal

We’re back to normal in Round 23 of MLS Fantasy. Here’s what you need to know:

So what are my plans for the week ahead? Hairston caught my eye in a big way as good way to get fullback type points for a basic defender price. If you really want someone under the radar, NYCFC's Maxime Chanot ($8.1) was just added to the game at a high price, but earned a clean sheet first time out on the road in San Jose. If you’ve got the cash, he’s an interesting add.
