New York City extended their winning streak in MLS play to four games, as they defeated the New England Revolution 1-0 at Gillette Stadium on Wednesday.
NYCFC took the lead just before the hour mark, as Tommy McNamara went nearly to the endline with the ball, before turning to the box and sending a cross in. Frank Lampard, making the late run, found the perfect positioning as the cross bounced off him and went in the net.
Both sides had their chances, but it was the visitors, fresh off their New York Derby win over the Red Bulls at the weekend, that had the advantage in shots and possession, and as a result, NYCFC remain atop the Eastern Conference.
New England goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth was shown a straight red card in second-half stoppage time for denial of an obvious goalscoring opportunity, as he tripped Khiry Shelton on a late challenge outside the box.

- ROUNDING INTO FORM: NYCFC improved to an MLS-best 5-2-1 away from home, and also notched their first four-game winning streak in club history. And in addition to their attack starting to click with all of the starring players healthy, the defense notched its third consecutive shutout. With form like that, no wonder New York City are sitting atop the East at the moment.
- REVS HARD DONE BY? As can often be the case in soccer, a call (or non-call) or two can make all the difference. New England will likely feel they deserved at least one, and possibly two calls on the night. First, Kelyn Rowe appeared to be tripped by Jefferson Mena in the box in the opening minutes of the game, and then Kei Kamara may have been fouled in the run-up to NYCFC's goal. Referee David Gantar did not call either one, and that may have turned a draw or win into a loss for the hosts.
- RIGHT PLACE, RIGHT TIME FOR LAMPARD: A couple weeks ago, Lampard scored a controversial goal right on the doorstep in Seattle. This time, there wasn't the same kind of controversy on the finish, but one would not mistake his goal against the Revolution as a vintage finish. Still, it counts all the same and there's something to be said for being in the right place to bundle a ball in the net.
