The fourth round of the US Open Cup is in the books, with 14 MLS clubs and two NASL teams advancing to the Round of 16 after winning their cup contests on Tuesday or Wednesday.
The remaining teams learned their Round of 16 opponents and path to the final in US Soccer’s draw, which took place at 12 noon ET on Thursday and was publicized on Twitter @OpenCup.
Prior to the draw, US Soccer had already split the 16 fourth-round winners into four-team brackets based on geographic considerations. Round of 16 matches will be played the week of June 29, with the quarterfinals the week of July 20.
Only one region produced matchups between the two closest teams, with potential rivalry games like Red Bulls-Cosmos, Houston-Dallas and Portland-Seattle all avoided, at least for now. The draw did result in the top two teams in each conference facing off. In the East Region, the 1st-place Philadelphia Union hosting the 2nd-place New York Red Bulls in a rematch of last year's quarterfinal won by the Union in penalty kicks. In the Plains Region, the 1st-place Colorado Rapids will travel to face 2nd-place FC Dallas and former Rapids head coach Oscar Pareja.
