MLS Power Rankings, Week 14: How high did Real Salt Lake after win in NYC?

BIGGEST MOVERS: Seattle +4 spots | San Jose -2 spots

1

LAST WEEK: 1

HIGH: 1 | LOW: 20

They'll spend the next couple of weeks just praying that Jermaine Jones gets back from Copa America injury free and with some gas left in the tank.

Last five results: W-W-D-W-D

Next MLS match: June 18 vs. Chicago

2

LAST WEEK: 2

HIGH: 2 | LOW: 19

When they went down 1-0 we thought "young team getting caught in a trap game." And then they just kept attacking until Crew SC eventually surrendered. Philly aren't perfect, but they're top of the East for a reason.

Latest result: Won vs. Columbus, 3-2

Last five results: D-W-D-D-W

Next MLS match: June 18 at NYCFC

3

LAST WEEK: 3

HIGH: 1 | LOW: 7

They're unbeaten in five, but those were definitely two dropped points against the Dynamo. Nonetheless, Dallas seem poised to make a big second-half run and should probably be considered favorites to take home their first Supporters' Shield.

Latest result: Drew vs. Houston, 1-1

Last five results: W-W-W-D-D

Next MLS match: June 19 at Sporting KC (ESPN)

4

LAST WEEK: 6

HIGH: 1 | LOW: 15

They've gone just 3-4-0 in their last seven, but six of those were on the road. Capping off that run with a 3-2 win was icing on the cake, and even if RSL aren't generating a ton of possession or shots, fans should expect big things in the second half of the season.

Latest result: Won at NYCFC, 3-2

Last five results: L-L-W-L-W

Next MLS match: June 18 vs. Portland

5

LAST WEEK: 4

HIGH: 4 | LOW: 17

They entered the Copa America break on a three-game win streak, but come out on the other side with three of the next four on the road (where they've mostly struggled). How they handle that stretch could go a long way in determining home field advantage come November.

Next MLS match: June 19 vs. Seattle (FS1)

6

LAST WEEK: 5

HIGH: 1 | LOW: 7

Got ambushed by TFC's youngsters in the first leg of the Canadian Championship, and head to Stade Saputo down 4-2 on aggregate (it could've been worse -- they were down 4-0 until the very end). On the bright side: Ambroise Oyongo started for Cameroon in a win that clinched their participation in the next African Cup of Nations.

Next MLS match: June 18 at Columbus

7

LAST WEEK: 7

HIGH: 2 | LOW: 9

Just one win in their last six, and that scoreless home draw vs. Sporting was particularly lifeless. Obviously Robbie Keane was missed, but Gyasi Zardes as the No. 9 was probably missed even more. Without him there's nobody to open up space for the rest of the attack.

Latest result: Drew vs. Sporting KC, 0-0

Last five results: W-D-D-L-D

Next MLS match: June 18 at Toronto

8

LAST WEEK: 9

HIGH: 1 | LOW: 9

That last four in league play is gruesome, but the good news is twofold: The kids looked great against Montreal, and Sebastian Giovinco's injury is nowhere near as bad as feared.

Last five results: W-L-D-D-L

Next MLS match: June 18 vs. LA Galaxy

9

LAST WEEK: 11

HIGH: 1 | LOW: 12

Pitched their first shutout of the season despite playing a man down for most of the match. It was the kind of gritty, gutty win that's absolutely necessary in order to compete in MLS.

Latest result: Won vs. San Jose, 1-0

Last five results: L-L-W-D-W

Next MLS match: June 18 at Real Salt Lake

10

LAST WEEK: 8

HIGH: 6 | LOW: 13

No Wondo, no Godoy, no Quintero, no attack. San Jose have had more depth and answers than most expected this season, but last week's game was just a bridge too far.

Latest result: Lost at Portland, 1-0

Last five results: L-W-D-D-L

Next MLS match: June 18 at Orlando City

11

LAST WEEK: 10

HIGH: 8 | LOW: 14

Their kids were not quite up for the fight on the road at Ottawa in the Canadian Championship, leaving the 'Caps with much work to do in the second leg. Given their annual hopes to make the CCL, this Thursday's game is pretty huge for the franchise.

Next MLS match: June 18 vs. New England (TSN)

12

LAST WEEK: 12

HIGH: 6 | LOW: 17

It looked like Kaká was going to get the Brazilian send-off he deserves, but then the injury bug bit once again. Orlando City are probably relieved that he's getting a few weeks to rehab rather than a few hundred minutes of running himself into the grand for la seleçao.

Last five results: D-L-W-D-D

Next MLS match: June 18 vs. San Jose

13

LAST WEEK: 13

HIGH: 10 | LOW: 17

Things are quiet in Revs-ville right now, but they're gonna get cranked up really quick with three straight road games out of the international break. New England are just 0-3-3 away from Foxborough this season.

Last five results: D-L-W-L-W

Next MLS match: June 18 at Vancouver (TSN)

14

LAST WEEK: 18

HIGH: 7 | LOW: 18

If Cyle Larin hadn't set the earth on fire last season we'd all be marveling at Jordan Morris's productivity. Only four rookies (including Larin) have ever scored double-digit goals; Morris is already halfway there with 21 games left to play. He's also got three game-winners, including last week's. The rookie record? Four.

Latest result: Won at D.C. United, 2-0

Last five results: W-L-L-L-W

Next MLS match: June 19 at NY Red Bulls (FS1)

15

LAST WEEK: 14

HIGH: 14 | LOW: 20

It's good to see Bill Hamid back and making monster saves again, and he'll probably need to stay busy: Five of D.C.'s six games coming out of the break are on the road.

Latest result: Lost vs. Seattle, 2-0

Last five results: L-W-L-W-L

Next MLS match: June 18 at Houston

16

LAST WEEK: 15

HIGH: 9 | LOW: 20

Eight points from nine home games. NYCFC fans can take some joy from their good away record (so far), but... so far. They're going to travel so much during the second half of the season that this group will get worn down.

Latest result: Lost vs. Real Salt Lake, 3-2

Last five results: W-D-L-D-L

Next MLS match: June 18 vs. Philadelphia

17

LAST WEEK: 16

HIGH: 5 | LOW: 19

The defense continues to be a gigantic problem, but it's worth remembering that Columbus struggled in the first half of last season as well. Can they engineer a similar type of turnaround?

Latest result: Lost at Philadelphia, 3-2

Last five results: D-D-D-W-L

Next MLS match: June 18 vs. Montreal

18

LAST WEEK: 17

HIGH: 1 | LOW: 18

Four home losses is the most in the league. They got a good point at LA midweek -- and looked better defensively than they have in months -- but they really, really need to figure out how to protect their turf

Latest result: Drew at LA Galaxy, 0-0

Last five results: L-W-L-L-D

Next MLS match: June 19 vs. Dallas (ESPN)

19

LAST WEEK: 20

HIGH: 10 | LOW: 20

Two road points in the two games since parting ways with Owen Coyle. Nobody's gonna put a tape of that game in Dallas into a time capsule, but Houston are showing a more aggressive and entertaining type of soccer in the last 180 minutes.

Latest result: Drew at Dallas, 1-1

Last five results: L-W-L-D-D

Next MLS match: June 18 vs. D.C. United

20

LAST WEEK: 19

HIGH: 18 | LOW: 20

Chicago's season will be defined by what they do in this transfer window. With Jonathan Campbell's rock-solid performance from Day 1 and Brandon Vincent rounding into form, it's clear they did good work building a young core through the draft. Need a high-level attacking difference-maker now.
