Portland Timbers attacker Darlington Nagbe may have no bigger fan, outside of his family at least, than his head coach, Caleb Porter. Having first watched Nagbe play as a Cleveland-area high schooler when Porter was coaching the University of Akron, it's safe to say Nagbe made an impression.
"My jaw just completely dropped when I first saw him touch the ball," Porter says. "I knew this kid was completely special."
Since then, Nagbe and Porter have won a pair of championships together - the 2010 NCAA title and the 2015 MLS Cup - but earning US citizenship may have been the most emotional for the Liberian-born Nagbe.
In Citizen Nagbe, the latest MLS Insider, presented by adidas, we hear from Porter and teammates Jack Jewsbury and Zarek Valentin about Nagbe's special talent on the field, his family-first humility off it and his strong bond with the United States.
