US Soccer announced on Monday an addendum to a regulation announced in November concerning teams eligible for the annual US Open Cup tournament.

Previously, teams owned by teams playing at a higher level in the US soccer pyramid were ruled ineligible for future Open Cup participation, beginning with this year's edition. This primarily affected USL teams directly owned by MLS teams.

On Monday, an additional team, new USL side Rio Grande Valley FC, was included in the list of clubs banned from playing in the tournament. Although RGVFC are independently owned, they are managed by the Houston Dynamo, and the release from US Soccer notes the alteration was made at the request of the Dynamo.
