Chelsea coach Guus Hiddink: Matt Miazga is "close" to making debut

Is Matt Miazga ready for his first appearance with Chelsea in the English Premier League?

According to Chelsea coach Guus Hiddink, the former New York Red Bulls defender is not far off.

“He is close,” Hiddink told reporters on Friday. “He is fit. He had a good preseason and he’s fit. We are doing now some tests today and we will get the results this afternoon but I think he will be fit.”

“What the weekend will bring?” he added. “It’s too early at this moment.”

Miazga moved to Chelsea from the Red Bulls in January and is waiting for his debut with the club. The 20-year-old made the bench earlier this week in the first leg of a Champions League Round of 16 series at Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday.

Chelsea will return to FA Cup action this weekend, facing Manchester City at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
