DC United acquire Chicago Fire winger Patrick Nyarko in exchange for 2016 SuperDraft pick

D.C. United announced Wednesday they have acquired winger Patrick Nyarko from the Chicago Fire in exchange for their second-round pick in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft, confirming original reports that emerged Tuesday.

Per league and club policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.

Nyarko, 29, played in 19 matches for the Fire in 2015 after returning from a serious knee injury, scoring three goals and adding four assists. In eight MLS seasons, all with the Fire, the Ghanaian has recorded 19 goals and 39 assists in 196 appearances (148 starts).

"From a wide position, Patrick has regularly been one of the top chance creators in the league,ā€ United general manager Dave Kasper said in a team statement. "His pace and technical ability make him difficult to defend and we believe that he will complement our returning attacking players perfectly."

Nyarko was selected seventh overall in the 2008 MLS SuperDraft by the Fire after a successful collegiate career at Virginia Tech, where he was a NSCAA first team All-American and led the Hokies to their first ever NCAA College Cup appearance in 2007.
