A national viewing audience got another glimpse of what Portland Timbers attacker Darlington Nagbe is capable of as he scored a goal in their Sunday evening dismantling of the LA Galaxy at StubHub Center.

It appears US national team head coach Jurgen Klinsmann was also watching – and impressed with what he saw.

Timbers head coach Caleb Porter revealed Monday afternoon in an interview on MLSsoccer.com’s ExtraTime Radio that Klinsmann has been in contact about Nagbe’s status for a possible future call-up. Porter said he even received an email Monday morning inquiring whether the FIFA paperwork for Nagbe, who received his US citizenship more than a month ago, had been processed yet.

“I’ve talked to Jurgen,” Porter said. “He likes him, he’s very interested in bringing him in.”

Porter said Nagbe, who was born in Liberia but raised in the US, has had to wait on FIFA for official certification despite receiving his citizenship but that he should be eligible for the November window. That means he could be in line for a call-up when the USMNT take on St. Vincent & The Grenadines (Nov. 13) and Trinidad & Tobago (Nov. 17) in World Cup qualifiers.
