MLS Disciplinary Committee suspends Cristian Maidana, Collen Warner, Victor Cabrera

It was a busy week for the MLS Disciplinary Committe as two players have been handed suspensions and one has seen his suspension reduced after appeal.


Toronto FC midfielder Collen Warner has been suspended for two games and fined an undisclosed amount for violent conduct that endangered the safety of an opponent in the 23rd minute of Toronto’s match against the Montreal Impact on August 29, 2015 (video above).


In the 94th minute of the Philadelphia Union match against the New England Revolution on August 29, Philadelphia midfielder Cristian Maidana was issued a red card for spitting at New England’s Lee Nguyen (VIDEO). 


Following an appeal through the MLS Players Union, the Disciplinary Committee’s decision was reduced from an additional two-game suspension to an additional one-game suspension, two games total including the red card suspension, and an undisclosed fine.


Maidana will serve his two-game suspension, which includes the automatic one-game suspension for the red card and the supplementary one-game suspension levied by the Disciplinary Committee, during the next two Union league matches. 


In addition, Impact defender Victor Cabrera has been suspended for one game and fined an undisclosed amount for a serious foul play that endangered the safety of an opponent in the 56th minute of Montreal’s match against Toronto on August 29, 2015 (VIDEO).


Chicago Fire midfielder/defender Matt Polster has been fined an undisclosed amount for his actions involving a fan in the 20th minute of Chicago’s match against Orlando on August 29, 2015.


The MLS Disciplinary Committee has also fined LA Galaxy defender Leonardo an undisclosed amount for failure to leave the field in a timely/orderly matter after receiving a red card in the 47th minute of LA’s match against San Jose on August 28, 2015.
