Monday Morning Center Back: An early look at who you should target with unlimited transfers this week

David Accam Fantasy

It was DGW domination in Round 26 of MLS Fantasy. All 11 players on the Round 26 Dream Team played twice, highlighting the upside of loading up on DGW players in any given week.

Popular New York Red Bulls pickups Sacha Kljestan, Lloyd Sam and Bradley Wright-Phillips did not disappoint. The trio combined for four goals, four assists and 52 fantasy points.

Both David Accam and Vicente Sánchez put in solid shifts to match Kljestan with 21 points for the top player of the round.

Houston Dynamo defenders fill out the back line, keeping Vancouver off the board to earn shutout points all around.

Things didn’t go so well for top-scoring single-game players, with Sebastian Giovinco and Kei Kamara combining for a mere five points. Fantasy owners cringed seeing Giovinco hobble off the field with an adductor injury in the 51st minute.

Binturongs FC picked the right time to pull their wildcard, led by 42 points from captaining Kljestan to hit 131 points for the highest score of Round 26.

Monday Morning Center Back: An early look at who you should target with unlimited transfers this week -

We have a full week to retool our squads as a tricky Round 27 doesn’t kick off until Saturday night. There is a lot to process, so let’s jump right into everything to consider leading up to the transfer deadline:

Unlimited Transfers and a TGW?: To deal with half of all MLS teams being on a bye this round, ALL managers have unlimited transfers for Round 27. While there are no teams playing twice this round, the next three rounds feature teams on a DGW. I’ll be sure to include some players from the six teams playing twice in Round 29. Oh yeah, and the Montreal Impact are scheduled for THREE games in Round 29; could this be the first “TGW” in MLS Fantasy history?

Here are a few players i’ll likely be including on my retooled team:

Monday Morning Center Back: An early look at who you should target with unlimited transfers this week -

Lee Nguyen
– New England Revolution – Midfielder ($11.1m)
– Prior to being held off the scoresheet over the weekend, Nguyen had a goal or an assist in five straight games. He rattled off five shots in the Revs' win over Philadelphia and will continue to be relied upon to spark the attack as the Revs jockey for playoff positioning. Nguyen has a favorable matchup vs. Orlando City and is a good pickup with the Revs' DGW in Round 29 in mind.

Bobby Shuttleworth – New England Revolution – Goalkeeper ($5.3m) – Shuttleworth is a solid play with an Orlando City “attack” coming to town that will be missing leading scorers Kaká and Cyle Larin. Orlando City have been held scoreless in three consecutive road games. The Revs netminder has three clean sheets over their current run of five unbeaten.

Chris Wondolowski – San Jose Earthquakes – Forward ($11m) – Wondo has been instrumental in the Quakes' recent four-game winning streak and has three goals on 10 shots in his last three games. San Jose also play twice in Round 29, and they should lean heavily on Wondolowski as they fight for their playoff lives.
