AMSTERDAM – Eintracht Frankfurt defender Timothy Chandler is set for a spell on the sidelines after suffering a torn meniscus in his right knee during Saturday's Bundesliga victory at Stuttgart.

The club announced via Twitter on Sunday that Chandler's injury would require an operation, but they have yet to firm up the surgery date. Recovery time for such an injury and repair typically runs about six weeks.

Chandler, who started the season in manager Amrin Veh's doghouse after arriving late for preseason following US national team duty, was making his first start of the season against Stuttgart. He suffered the knee injury without contact near halftime and was removed at the break.

The injury also means Chandler will likely miss the United States national team's September friendlies against Peru and Brazil as well as the Confederations Cup playoff against Mexico on Oct. 10.
