FC Cincinnati set to announce 2016 USL expansion

Report: FC Cincinnati set to announce 2016 USL expansion, John Harkes as head coach

Nothing is official yet, but details surrounding Cincinnati's bid for a USL franchise continue to emerge.

On Tuesday, the prospective Cincinnati expansion franchise revealed a name, logo, ownership group and stadium situation ahead of a news conference scheduled for Wednesday.

FC Cincinnati will reportedly be owned by the Lindner family and will play next year at the University of Cincinnati’s newly renovated Nippert Stadium. Longtime USMNT captain John Harkes will lead the expansion franchise in their first professional season, according to a video released by the club (watch above).

When contacted by MLSsoccer.com, a USL spokesperson said the league "does not comment on potential franchises."

The only confirmed expansion franchise for 2016 is Rio Grande Valley FC. The league confirmed an expanded regular-season schedule earlier this month, moving from 28 to 30 games.
