Fantasy Doctor: Answering all your lineup questions on another Double Game Week

Dax McCarty - Fantasy Doctor

MLS Fantasy managers this week have the luxury of four teams in midweek action, which is a great opportunity to make up ground if you’ve been slipping. A fantasy team properly set for a double match week is like a seagull that just found a supply of free, fresh fish. It’s a feast and everyone’s invited.

With both matches kicking off at 8 pm ET, it’s best to wait until the last minute to make transfers. As lineups are announced in the hour before the deadline, that’s the time to adjust your roster. There are some key names listed as questionable on the injury report, with Michael Bradley standing out the most. Orlando City SC have been stretched thin by injuries, and Kaká just confirmed via his Facebook page that he did not travel with the team.

So who’s worth adding who will take the field tonight?

Shaun Wright-Philips ($7.5) had a decent debut for the Red Bulls, with an assist and a penalty earned. He’s one I’d wait on until seeing the lineups, but he certainly caught my attention. The rock right now for New York is Dax McCarty ($8.5), who has had five assists in three matches since sitting out against Columbus.

If you’re yet to add Cyle Larin ($6.2), there’s really no goalscorer out there who’s hotter. He’s increased in value $0.7 since making his rookie debut, and is now on the cusp of breaking the MLS rookie goalscoring record with five goals over his last two outings.

So will any of this help our patient of the week? Jeffrey Guerrera submitted his team, with slight concerns about players making travel rosters on a busy week.

Dear MLS Fantasy Doctor,
I’ve seen several rumors about who will and won’t travel this week. Can you help me out?

The only advice I can give with respect to rumors is to wait to make your transfers until after lineups are announced. That being said, we do know at least we need to get you a defender to replace Andrew Farrell. Victor Cabrera ($6.6) or Laurent Ciman ($7.9) on Montreal’s back line are viable options, with Ciman the attacking defender which is always a popular fantasy choice.

Kaká still looks to feature this weekend, so it’s not a necessity to transfer him out. Even so, his cost doesn’t justify his current form, and without the double match week possibility, I’d rather go with a cheaper midfielder who does have that potential. Bring in McCarty and lets see if we can’t get you over the century mark for the week.

Hope this helps!
