Let's be honest: The past month in Major League Soccer clearly belonged to the attackers.
For the first time in 2015, no defenders or goalkeepers are among the five candidates for the Etihad Airways MLS Player of the Month award. Combined, the five forwards nominated this month accounted for 18 goals and eight assists.
Which probably makes it even more difficult to decide who was the top player in May. But, that's your task.
How it works: At the end of each month, the MLSsoccer.com editorial staff selects the five final nominees. You then vote to determine the winner. Voting for the May POTM will be open until 11:59 pm PT, Wednesday, June 3.
Clint Dempsey, Seattle Sounders — Just another month at the office for the Sounders star, who bagged three goals and three assists as Seattle went 4-1-1. He may not be involved in the USMNT's friendlies this week, but he can rest easy know his club side sits atop the Supporters' Shield standings.
Sebastian Giovinco, Toronto FC — The Atomic Ant was even more atomic than last month, when he was also nominated. In May, he notched two goals and three assists as the Reds went 3-1-1. Included in that tally were two matchwinners in 1-0 victories.
Kei Kamara, Columbus Crew SC — The Sierra Leone international found his top gear in May, firing home five goals to take the lead in the league goal-scoring chart. Crew SC went 1-2-2 and are still below the playoff "red line" in the East, but he is ahead by two goals in the Golden Boot race.
Krisztian Nemeth, Sporting Kansas City — The Hungarian marksman -- who was called up for his nation's Euro qualifiers in June -- exploded with three goals and two assists as SKC found their rhythm. The side finished May with a 3-0-2, in large part to Nemeth's inspiration.
Chris Wondolowski, San Jose Earthquakes — He's not in this list because he hit his 100th career regular-season MLS goal in May. No, he's here because it was one of five goals he struck as the Quakes went 2-1-3 in the month and asserted themselves into the Western Conference playoff conversation.
