A late goal from Orlando City defender Conor Donovan gave the US Under-20 national team a 2-2 draw with Asian champions Qatar in an international friendly Tuesday at the Red Bull Salzburg academy in Salzburg, Austria.
The US U-20s, preparing for the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup that begins May 30, took a 1-0 first-half lead through former New York Red Bulls forward Amando Moreno. After Qatar rallied in the second half to lead 2-1, Donovan got the final touch from a corner kick to tie the score in the 84th minute.
New York Red Bulls center back Matt Miazga was the only MLS player in the starting lineup, but Toronto FC's Marky Delgado and Real Salt Lake's Jordan Allen played the second half.
Three more MLS players come on for the final 15 minutes: Columbus Crew SC's Romain Gall, Seattle Sounders' Cristian Roldan and San Jose Earthquakes' Tommy Thompson.
The US will next face Croatia, who did not qualify for the June finals, on Saturday, also in Wals-Siezenheim, to complete the camp.
At the U-20 World Cup, the US will play in Group A with hosts New Zealand, Asian runners-up Myanmar and Ukraine. Qatar will compete in Group C with the second-place finishers from three different confederations' qualifying tournaments: Portugal, Colombia and Senegal. The runners-up from Groups A and C are scheduled to meet in the Round of 16, and their respective first- and third-place teams could also meet.
