Canadian Exports: Birmingham City's David Edgar heads out on loan to Huddersfield Town

David Edgar

David Edgar will have a new home in the English Championship for the remainder of the season.

Birmingham City has sent the Canadian veteran on loan to Huddersfield Town until season’s end, the club announced on Wednesday. The 27-year-old native of Kitchener, Ontario has 19 appearances for Birmingham this season, but has fallen out of favor since late October.

The move could provide the versatile defender/midfielder, who has 26 caps for Canada, with increased playing time ahead of World Cup qualifying in June and the CONCACAF Gold Cup in July. That will come as good news to head coach Benito Floro, who has identified Edgar as one of the key members of his squad.

Huddersfield Town will be Edgar’s fifth club in a 10-year career played entirely in the UK. After coming up through Newcastle United’s system and playing four seasons at St. James’ Park, he went on to feature for Burnley, Swansea City (on loan) and Birmingham City.
