There is another chapter yet to be written in the Terry Dunfield story.
The veteran midfielder has signed with Ross County of the Scottish Premiership, according to a report out of Aberdeen. The 32-year-old native of Vancouver, who has played for his hometown Whitecaps as well as Toronto FC, has been searching for a club since being released by Oldham Athletic at the end of last season.
Dunfield signed with Manchester City in 2000 as a teenager, and made numerous appearances with Canada’s youth teams. But his tenure with City was short-lived, and he didn’t make his debut with Canada’s senior national team until 2010 under head coach Stephen Hart.
He has made 14 appearances in all for Les Rouges, having last been with the team for a pair of friendlies against the Czech Republic and Slovenia in November 2013. It remains to be seen whether this signing will get him back on the radar of current head coach Benito Floro – but it certainly can’t hurt.
Dunfield isn’t the first Canadian international to join the Staggies – both Andre Hainault (2013) and Richard Hastings (2001-02) suited up for Ross County.
One interesting bit of trivia: This move means that at this moment, there are Canadians in all of the top four divisions in Scotland. Dunfield joins Fraser Aird (Glasgow Rangers, Championship), Luca Gasparotto (on loan to Airdrieonians, League One) and Dylan Carreiro (on loan to Arbroath).
