The Montreal Impact had already done much of the heavy lifting, beating CD FAS twice. Last night's victory by the New York Red Bulls was the coup de grace, officially eliminating the team from El Salvador ensuring that an MLS club will advance out of Group 3 in the CONCACAF Champions League.
Now the two Eastern Conference rivals -- who just met this past weekend in MLS play -- will go head-to-head twice, with New York travelling to Montreal on Sept. 17 and the Impact visiting Red Bull Arena on Oct. 22, the last day of group play.
In between, the Red Bulls will have to go to El Salvador on Sept. 24 to play FAS one more time, as they hope to get a win in Central America and keep pace with the Impact.
