AMSTERDAM – Three American defenders helped their clubs advance to the third round of the Capital One Cup on Tuesday night, with Eric Lichaj (above) and Nottingham Forest brushing aside hosts Huddersfield Town, 2-0.

The right back worked all 90 minutes as the early Championship leaders remained unbeaten across all competitions this term. Huddersfield attacker Duane Holmes came on for the final 18 minutes to no avail.

Elsewhere, Derby County center back Zak Whitbread saw his first action of the campaign, helping the Rams blank visiting Charlton 1-0.

Tim Ream also went the distance in a winning cause as Bolton scored a 3-2 extra-time victory at Crewe Alexandra.
