American Exports: Joe Corona helps Club Tijuana grab first win of Liga MX Apertura

Joe Corona with Club Tijuana

GUADALAJARA, Mexico – Joe Corona started and provided an assist as Club Tijuana recorded their first win of the Apertura 2014 on Friday.

Xolos overcame Chiapas 2-1 at Estadio Caliente, with Corona sending in a through-ball from the left wing that caused confusion in the defense and left Darío Benedetto free to tap in what turned out to be the winning goal in the 55th minute.

Corona went the full 90 minutes on the right of midfield and almost scored in the 34th when his right-foot shot sailed just wide of the post.

Greg Garza missed out due to an injury to his nose and Alejandro Guido was left on the bench for Tijuana, while Gabriel Farfan didn’t dress for Chiapas.

The win means Xolos have five points from their first five games of the season.
