American Exports: Retired Steve Cherundolo to receive rare Hannover 96 testimonial match

Steve Cherundolo with Hannover

AMSTERDAM – Longtime Hannover 96 skipper Steve Cherundolo will gain the rare tribute of a testimonial match at the club's HDI-Arena on Sunday afternoon.

The former US right back made 415 total appearances for the Reds, including a club record 302 in the Bundesliga. Cherundolo retired as a one-club man at the end of last season, with his 15 seasons for Hannover tied for the 15th longest tenure with a single team since the Bundesliga was founded in 1963.

"It's a great opportunity for all the fans, Hannover 96 and the city to celebrate as a whole," Cherundolo told the club website.

Now a coach with the club's Under-15 side, the American will be reunited several former teammates such as Thomas Brdaric, Altin Lala and Jörg Sievers during Sunday's exhibition game. Cherundolo will line up for the "Hannover All-Stars" against the "96 All-Stars" – which will include German television personality and Reds supporter Oliver Hocher in with the former Hannover players.
