Toronto FC striker Jermain Defoe out 2-3 weeks with groin strain

Toronto FC will be without striker Jermain Defoe for 2-3 weeks with a groin strain, the club announced on Monday.

Defoe, 31, was forced to miss the Reds’ 2-0 win over Montreal on Saturday and was later pulled from the AT&T MLS All-Star roster because of the injury, which was sustained last week.

One of the biggest signings of the offseason, the English international and longtime Premiership goalscorer has been one of the most effective offensive threats in Major League Soccer this season. His 11 goals are fifth in the league and tops on a TFC team fighting to make the postseason for the first time in franchise history, and he’s added two assists in his 15 appearances this season.
