MLS academies were strongly represented in the US Soccer Development Academy's year-end awards, announced this week in the wake of the DA's championship finals at StubHub Center in Carson, Calif., on Saturday.
Chicago Fire prospect Collin Fernandez won the Player of the Year award among Under-15/16s in the Central Conference, while Sebastian Saucedo of Real Salt Lake AZ won that honor in the West. In the Under-17/18s division, LA Galaxy talent Adonis Amaya won the West's Player of the Year gong.
Lars Richters of Crew Soccer Academy Wolves, an affiliate of the Columbus Crew, won Coach of the Year in the Central and former New England Revolution midfielder Teddy Chronopoulos earned that award in the West for his work with California powerhouse Pateadores.
In overall awards, the Philadelphia Union were named the Best Overall Club in the East Conference. FC Dallas earned the same distinction in the Central and the award went to the LA Galaxy in the West. To be considered for this award, a club must have a U-12 through pro development pathway.
