Report: BBC claims Frank Lampard is set to join New York City FC next week; NYCFC decline comment

Frank Lampard celebrates his winner for England vs. Brazil

Frank Lampard slots the ball to David Villa, who scores!

That's what New York City FC supporters must be dreaming about after Saturday's BBC report claiming that the Chelsea legend "will complete his move to Major League Soccer newcomers New York City next week."

When contacted by MLSsoccer.com about the story on Saturday, a NYCFC spokesman declined comment.

The 36-year-old central midfielder, who played for England at the 2014 World Cup, became a free agent after cutting ties with Chelsea following 13 seasons with the London-based club. A potential move to MLS has been rumored for over a year, with the LA Galaxy also featuring in some of the rumor mill chatter.

Saturday's BBC report indicated that it's unclear where Lampard would play over the next five months in advance of the opening of 2015 MLS training camps in January and the article left open the possibility of Lampard remaining "in the UK to train."
