New England Revolution midfielder Lee Nguyen has never received a red card in his MLS career, but the Disciplinary Committee thought he should have last weekend.
On Friday the MLS Disciplinary Committee suspended Nguyen one game and fined him an undisclosed amount for "endangering the safety of an opponent and bringing the game into disrepute" after stomping on the back of Real Salt Lake midfielder John Stertzer in the 57th minute of the Revolution's 2-1 loss at Rio Tinto Stadium on July 4 (WATCH THE PLAY HERE).
Referee Allen Chapman whistled for the foul after momentarily allowing advantage to RSL. No cards were issued on the play.
The ruling means Nguyen will have to sit out Saturday's match against the Chicago Fire at Gillette Stadium (7:30 pm ET, MLS LIVE).
