D.C. United announced on Tuesday that the club has parted ways with left back Cristian Fernandez, with both parties mutually agreeing on the termination of his contract.

“Cristian was unhappy living in the United States and we have decided it was in everyone’s best interest to release the player from his contract,” said United general manager Dave Kasper in a statement. “We wish him all the best at his next club.”

The Spaniard  started 15 games for the Black-and-Red and recorded one assist this season after joining the club on February 7.

A product of his hometown club Racing Santander, he began his pro career with Racing's reserve team in 2003 before earning promotion to its first team in 2007. He moved to Almeria in Spain’s second division for the 2012-2013 season before leaving the club in December.
