World Cup: New York Red Bulls' defender Roy Miller out of tournament for Costa Rica with injury

Roy Miller, Costa Rica (June 24, 2014)

Costa Rica's depth has taken a hit at the World Cup, as Roy Miller has been ruled out of the rest of the tournament with an injury.

The New York Red Bulls defender, who played 90 minutes in Costa Rica's scoreless draw against England to conclude group play on June 24, will not feature again, according to a release from the Costa Rican federation on Sunday. He suffered a muscular injury to his left leg in training last Friday.

Despite the injury, Miller will remain with the national team as long as they stay alive in the tournament. The Ticos advanced to the quarterfinals on Sunday following a penalty shootout victory against Greece, and their run to the final eight is their best-ever performance at a World Cup. Costa Rica's next game is a quarterfinal matchup against the Netherlands in Salvador on Saturday (4 pm ET, ESPN/Univision in US, CBC in Canada).

It is currently unknown how long Miller will be sidelined with the injury, and if it will delay his return to the Red Bulls' lineup.

The Red Bulls next match is Friday at the Houston Dynamo (8:30 pm ET, NBCSN).
