It wasn’t the victory FC Dallas wanted, but considering the challenging circumstances, the Texans were satisfied with the point and the shutout that came with their scoreless draw against the Columbus Crew on Sunday afternoon.
The game was originally scheduled for Saturday night, and a standing-room only crowd was on hand for the match at Crew Stadium, but extreme weather combined with an injured fan from lightning delayed the game until Sunday afternoon. Add in FC Dallas’ own complications from the last two months, and they’ll gladly take the draw and return to Texas to prepare for their next game.
“It’s a great point for us on the road,” said defender Zach Loyd. “It’s really tough to regroup after something like that happened last night. For the guys to come out and do the work that we did and to come out with the clean sheet was really big for us.”
FC Dallas entered the match with three players on suspension from their match against the Portland Timbers, a 2-2 draw on June 11, including their hottest player, Fabian Castillo, and veteran forward Blas Perez.
Dallas did miss out on a few chances to win the match. In a game that was also affected by playing in mid-day summer heat rather than the cooler temperatures from the night before, Dallas were able to get some dangerous looks at goal but were unable to convert.

“We had four clear chances to score that was due to the hard work and the discipline the boys showed on the field,” said head coach Oscar Pareja. “Despite the challenges, this was one of the best performances we have had during the year.”
Said midfielder Adam Moffat: “We probably should have scored a few and we’re disappointed about that. They had a lot of the ball but in places we were fine with.”
