World Cup: Jozy Altidore injury vs. Ghana

Jozy Altidore exited the US national team's Group G opener against Ghana on Monday in the first half with an apparent injury.


The striker, who scored a pair of goals in the USMNT's final tune-up match against Nigeria, pulled up in the 21st minute while battling for a ball along the left flank with Ghana defender John Boye, and immediately grabbed the back of his left leg. He was stretchered off the field and immediately substituted. Aron Johannsson replaced Altidore in the 23rd minute.


A US Soccer spokesman told reporters shortly after Altidore left the match that he suffered a strained left hamstring. According to FIFA regulations, if Altidore is unable to continue in the tournament, he cannot be replaced in the roster, as the deadline to make changes passed on Sunday for the United States.
