World Cup: USMNT's Timmy Chandler trains to side after "minor" leg injury, return expected Friday

SAO PAULO – Defender Timmy Chandler is expected to return to training with the US national team on Friday, despite battling a minor leg injury that held him out of full training twice this week, a US Soccer spokesman confirmed to MLSsoccer.com.


Chandler, 24, suffered the injury on Tuesday and was the only player not to train with the team during their open session on Wednesday.


According to a the spokesman, he worked out alone with a trainer on Thursday but is expected back with his teammates on Friday, the team’s final session before it departs for Natal ahead of the opening match against Ghana on Monday, June 16 (6 pm ET, ESPN).



The Frankfurt native started at left back in the US team’s World Cup preparation match against Turkey on June 1 but relinquished that spot to veteran DaMarcus Beasley in the team’s final tuneup against Nigeria this past Saturday. Chandler has 13 caps since making his USMNT debut in 2011.
