Montreal Impact bolster defense further by signing Haitian international Mechack Jérôme

The Montreal Impact clearly are not satisfied with their current back line.

Just four days after trading for center back Futty Danso, the Impact announced on Friday that they have signed Haitian defender Mechack Jérôme. The deal is pending his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) clearance, and further details of the contract were not disclosed per MLS policy.

An outside back, the 24-year-old Jérôme appeared in 10 regular-season games as Sporting Kansas City won the 2013 MLS Cup last year but was waived by the club in late March just two games into the season. In Kansas City, Jérôme totaled 10 starts in 12 regular season games while also playing in three CONCACAF Champions League matches and one Lamar Hunt US Open Cup fixture.

Jérôme came to MLS after playing two years with Orlando City, where he helped the club to back-to-back Commissioner's Cups as the USL PRO regular-season champions in 2011-12 and the 2011 USL PRO postseason title.

At the international level, Jérôme has played 29 games for the Haitian national team, most notably during the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup, the 2008 and 2012 Caribbean Cups and 2010 Wold Cup qualifying matches.

Montreal are currently in last place in the Eastern Conference and have conceded 22 goals, which is tied for fourth-worst in MLS.
