His departure from long-time club Chelsea now official, England midfielder Frank Lampard has repeatedly been linked with 2015 Major League Soccer expansion club New York City FC, where he could join first-ever signing David Villa as a high-profile Designated Player.
Lampard confirmed a move to MLS is "an option" in an ESPN FC report on Tuesday, saying that he does not intend to finalize his destination until after the World Cup but reiterating that he feels able to compete at a high level.

"I'd like to get it sorted after the World Cup," Lampard told reporters. "The American thing is an option, I make no bones about that. I'm looking at different options, but the main thing is I want to carry on playing. I feel very fit and fresh and I'm enjoying it so I will keeping I'd love to play for a few more years."
Lampard, who will turn 36 during the World Cup, had played at Chelsea since 2001; he began his career with West Ham United in 1995. The 2014 edition will be Lampard's third World Cup with England, in addition to Euro 2004. On an individual level, he was a runner-up for the 2005 FIFA World Player of the Year award, finishing behind Ronaldinho.
At Chelsea, he won three Premier League and four FA Cup titles and the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League in back-to-back seasons (2011-12, 2012-13).
