Lupe Fiasco named US Soccer Music Director ahead of USMNT's 2014 World Cup run | SIDELINE

The US national team is set to receive an injection of hip-hop beats and a lyrical hype ahead of next month's World Cup in Brazil.

US Soccer announced on Tuesday the signing of Grammy Award-winning recording artist Lupe Fiasco as music director for the USMNT's run through the upcoming Send-Off Series and 2014 World Cup.

Building on the “One Nation. One Team.” theme, Fiasco will collaborate with US Soccer in a variety of areas over the next six weeks. He will also create a public Spotify playlist and handle in-game music programming during the Send-Off Series.

The World Cup, now just 23 days from kickoff, won't be Fiasco's first foray into combining his music and love of soccer. In 2006, he performed his first major hit "Kick Push" during halftime of the MLS All-Star Game (below video) in his hometown of Chicago.

American graffiti artist Futura on Tuesday was also named the art director for the USMNT's 2014 World Cup campaign. He will create two “live” works at the Fan Appreciation Day on May 30 and the US Soccer Fan Fest in Chicago on June 16. The live works will be auctioned off, with the proceeds benefitting the “Mission” campaign.
