American Exports: Reading hope for Danny Williams return for season finale with EPL promotion at stake

AMSTERDAM – Reading are crossing fingers that midfield ace Daniel Williams will be available for selection when they attempt to nail down a promotion playoff berth in this weekend's Championship regular-season capper at home to Burnley.

The 25-year-old missed out on seven of 12 matches for the Royals since picking up a knee injury during his late cameo in the US national team's March 5 friendly loss to Ukraine in Cyprus. Williams returned to play four games this month, but a flare-up with lingering fluid in the knee kept him out this past weekend's win at Doncaster.

"We're hoping he'll be back for us on Saturday," a Reading spokesman told MLSsoccer.com.

In his first season at the Madejski after a move from Hoffenheim, Williams has three goals and two game-winning assists in 30 league appearances.

Fifth-place Reading head into closing day needing a win to ensure they make the four-team playoff for a spot in the Premier League. Currently holding the third invite, three clubs are capable of passing them, with sixth-place Wigan holding a game in hand.
