Robbie Keane vs. Federico Higuain – Why not both? | MLS Fantasy Advice

TRANSFER DEADLINE: Saturday, 2:45 pm ET

  • The Montreal Impact and New York Red Bulls face off in what is shaping up to be a somewhat lopsided affair (4 pm ET, TSN/RDS in Canada, MLS Live in US), despite the Impact's struggles to start the season. Tim Cahill/Richard Eckersley (injured) and Thierry Henry/Jámison Olave (coach's decision) are all expected to be out. Meanwhile, the Impact have their go-to-guy back up top - Marco Di Vaio. I touched on this earlier in the week, but it's time to get on the Di Vaio train. Montreal's next two games are at home against shaky Eastern Conference defenses. If there was ever a time to invest in Quebecois, it's now.
  • Speaking of lopsided matchups, it looks like the Columbus Crew could be favored by five goals come kickoff at the rate things are going. Toronto FC will be without Jermain Defoe, Doneil Henry, Ashtone Morgan and possibly Jonathan Osorio because of injuries. They will also be without their captain, Steven Caldwell, due to suspension. Add to that the fact that "The General," Michael Bradley, just went the full 90 minutes against Mexico in Arizona during Wednesday night's international friendly. Surely, he's at least a little fatigued – not to mention the travel involved. It doesn't look very promising for Toronto fans this week. Here are some tweets from the Toronto Sun's Kurtis Larson, who's currently in Columbus ahead of Saturday's game (6 pm ET, MLS Live):
  • One of the league's brightest young talents will face his toughest challenge of the season when Mauro Díaz and FC Dallas take on the Houston Dynamo at BBVA Compass Stadium on Saturday (8 pm ET, MLS Live). The Argentine playmaker has two goals and one assist to start the season, leading Dallas to a 3-0-1 record. However, the Dynamo are very strong at home. They've outscored their first two opponents 5-0 at BBVA and they'll be taking Saturday's matchup agains the Western Conference leaders extremely seriously. The Dynamo are healthy and will look to cement themselves as one of the best teams in the league. Can they get their third shutout in four games? That all depends. If Díaz is the real deal, which I think he is, it won't be an easy task.

Most people will tell you that Federico Higuaín is a must-own this round, and while I don't necessarily disagree, I think Keane is up there as well. In five games against Chivas USA, Keane has four goals. He has a 0.8 goals/game average against the Goats -- the second-best rate he's had against any team since his move to MLS (min. three games played). The LA Galaxy have had plenty of rest to start the season outside CCL play, and Keane will be itching to get on the field come Saturday. I have both Higuaín and Keane in my lineup, but the armband is going to Keane.

If you haven't seen the news from Friday, the Philadelphia striker has been traded to the Montreal Impact. Now, he won't be a total loss because over the course of the season he's sure to see an occasional start or two when Frank Klopas decides to give Di Vaio some rest. But, he's no longer guaranteed a starting role, which means he should be dropped from your lineup immediately.

View Round 5 injury report

  • Luis Silva: Expected to miss a few weeks with an ankle injury.
  • Tim Cahill: Expected to miss 2-3 weeks with a left hamstring injury.
  • Doneil Henry: Did not travel with the team to Columbus because of a knee injury.
  • A.J. DeLaGarza: Limited in practice. Extra day will help, but he's still questionable at best.
  • Sheanon Williams: Back at practice, but will not start this week. Ray Gaddis is in at RB.

This is how my team looks for Round 5 at the moment. Might make a last-minute swap for Dylan Remick or someone else on my backline – I have David Horst (HOU) and Armando (NY) both available on my bench.
